Hey! My name is Sofia Velarde and I am a Digital Media Innovation student at TXST. I have always been drawn to creative things, especially design, videography, creative writing, and photography. I love experimenting with everything while I'm working on a project instead of always having one exact way to do something. I am still figuring out what area of digital media I want to focus on, but I know I want to do something creative. I chose this major because it gives me the chance to explore a lot of different interests within the digital media field.
I was born in Bolivia and have lived in a few different places, which has made me pretty comfortable with change. One of the places I remember most fondly is Trinidad and Tobago, where I spent a part of my childhood. I moved to Texas when I was fifteen, so starting over in a completely different environment was a big part of my life. I think those experiences have made me more curious about people and hearing about their backgrounds. Outside of school, I love spending time with people I love, listening to music, drawing, journaling, and going to the gym.
One thing I really like about digital media is that it combines creativity with technology . I enjoy working on projects where I can make something look good but also think about how someone will experience it. Recently , I have been getting more interested in user experience so I've been experimenting with Figma working on personal projects. I am excited to keep trying different things in college and see what ends up feeling the most like me. In general I just want to build things that can make an impact on people who experience them.
